Coming Out on Top is a visual novel about Mark Matthews. He is in his last semester of college and decides to tell his dorm mates that he’s gay.
His friend Penny has developed a dating app, and that’s where the story begins.

Filled with good humor, the game has you dealing with your university routine and possible encounters that may occur.
I really enjoyed this dating sim because it manages to combine humor and storytelling in a very natural way. The game is not just about sex, nor is it simply a cute story with no substance.
It’s possible to go out with multiple guys, and the best part is that each one’s reaction is quite unpredictable — or rather, getting laid isn’t as easy as it seems!

Final Thoughts – Analyzing the Game as a Whole

Graphics and UI

The game’s artwork is well done (and the poses for the sex scenes were well chosen haha). I only found it a bit strange that some of the scenarios were made with 3D art, which gives the game a slightly unusual look at times.

The game offers many customization options, including the ability to remove or add censorship, condoms, and body hair for each character.
As you succeed in getting intimate with the characters, these illustrations become available to view afterward.

During gameplay, the key options (“save,” “load,” and “options”) are located in the top-right corner of the screen, which is quite practical.

Soundtrack and Sound Effects

I didn’t find the soundtrack particularly spectacular, but it sets the mood for the entire game and helps keep you immersed.

Gameplay

The entire game is composed of dialogues, requiring nothing more than attention during conversations.
You can use the space bar or mouse clicks to advance the dialogue.

The story isn’t cliché, and each character has a well-developed personality. In general, the characters are quite unpredictable, making it difficult to know which response will be most suitable for getting intimate with each guy.

The game features multiple save slots, allowing the player to save whenever they want and as many times as needed. This is very useful for trying out different response combinations.
After a certain point in the game, you can play a mode where the focus shifts exclusively to encounters through Penny’s app.

For me, the biggest difference with this game is that even though it contains pornography, it doesn’t necessarily focus on it.

Replayability and Game Retention

The main storyline itself is a very comedic experience. In addition to starting a new game and making different choices, you can also focus exclusively on encounters through the app.
Another positive point is that even if you succeed in getting intimate, the positions can change depending on your responses, providing more illustration options within the same storyline.
