Metropolis Lux Obscura is a game that blends puzzle elements with narrative-driven mechanics.
The game tells the story of Jon Lockhart, a man who has just been released from prison after being accused of murdering a friend.
He returns to the city where everything began, driven by his desire to take revenge on those who framed him.
Final Thoughts – Analyzing the Game as a Whole
Graphics and UI
It’s worth highlighting how splendid the art style is, each scene is beautifully drawn and genuinely a pleasure to look at.
During battles, the HUD is very easy to understand, clearly displaying the characters’ health bars.
Soundtrack and Sound Effects
One of the game’s strongest points is the voice acting, which is very well performed.
The soundtrack does an excellent job of setting the noir atmosphere of the game, which was clearly inspired by Sin City.
Gameplay
Like many narrative-driven games, you can choose which locations you want to visit and which lines of dialogue you want to select during gameplay.
The game’s progression is presented as if it were a comic book.
Be prepared to encounter plenty of nudity, dirty language, and sex scenes. This game is strongly not recommended for anyone under 18.
In fact, while I was playing, I had two screenshots removed from Live, so consider this a warning!
With gameplay reminiscent of Tetris Attack, you must defeat your opponent if you don’t want to be greeted by a game over screen. After winning a battle, you can upgrade one of your character’s attributes (of your own choosing, it’s not a linear system), making them stronger. This closes the gameplay progression loop.
The game features four save slots. Although they are automatic, at least the player has the option to follow an alternate path without compromising another save.
Replayability and Game Retention
The game is fairly short, you can finish it in about four hours. But don’t worry: there are four different endings, which gives you at least a solid reason to replay the entire game from scratch!
