Riddled Corpses EX is a remaster of Riddled Corpses, which was released only for PC. I didn’t play the previous version, so I won’t be able to compare them. :/

The story is about a great evil force that has reached our planet, turning humans into zombies. Your mission is to stop this evil from prevailing.

Final Thoughts – Analyzing the game as a whole

Graphics and UI

I really liked the art overall (which is heavily inspired by 8-bit and 16-bit games), but at times I had the feeling that the graphics have a slight blur. This ends up making it a bit harder to read the game’s labels.
Looking at the screenshots, everything looks pretty nice, but on my 40-inch TV it looked kind of weird. :/

I found the UI very easy to understand, but the HUD felt confusing at first. I think that because of the blur effect, it took me quite a while to realize that there is an item counter showing what you can use during gameplay.

Soundtrack and Sound Effects

Great soundtrack! The compositions reminded me a lot of the Mega Man NES music. You can also choose between two sound modes.

Gameplay

If you enjoy frantic games like Metal Slug, you’ll definitely like this one.

I felt the gameplay a bit complicated at the beginning. It took me some time to get a minimum level of coordination to move the character and aim the shots — this was a personal difficulty, since the controls themselves are simple to execute — but once you get the hang of it, everything becomes very smooth afterward.

The story mode consists of 5 stages, and during each run you accumulate coins that can be used to level up your character and weapons, unlock characters, and buy items. Improving your skills is inevitable, as the difficulty constantly increases.

In addition to the story mode (which saves your progress), the game also features an arcade mode (no progress saving) and a survival mode (stay alive as long as you can!). On top of that, all modes can be played in multiplayer.
The only sad part is that the multiplayer is local-only. 🙁

Replayability and Game Retention

It’s impossible not to come back to the game. Besides the story mode, you can keep farming coins to unlock characters and upgrade them.
That’s not even counting the option to play survival, arcade, and multiplayer modes. Guaranteed fun!
