Final Thoughts – Analyzing the Game as a Whole
Graphics and UI
The graphics are charming!
There are five different card back colors and designs to choose from.
The Kings, Queens, and Jacks have a simple design (a little cartoonish), but they still have their charm. Considering this is a NES game, it makes sense that the art style tries to catch kids’ attention.
Overall, I liked it.
Soundtrack and Sound Effects
The biggest issue with this game is that it only has one music track. After playing for a few minutes, it starts to get annoying.
Like many other NES puzzle games, it would have been nice to have at least one more track to choose from.
If you make a move that isn’t allowed, the game plays a warning sound.
And in terms of audio… that’s basically it. Nothing very elaborate.
Gameplay
Even for an NES game, the controls aren’t bad. Of course, this kind of game is much more comfortable to play with a mouse, but after spending hours playing Super Solitaire, I don’t think using a joystick is a big problem.
You have to move every card manually to where you want it. There’s nothing like a double-click to automatically send a card to the right place, and there’s no undo option either.
Another limitation is that once you place a card in a pile, you can’t move it back to another pile. Some other solitaire games allow this, and its absence here can ruin your strategy, especially when you need to move cards back to the tableau.
You can choose between two modes:
- One card per draw
- Three cards per draw
In general, it’s a very simple game.
Replayability and Game Retention
I played this game many times to unlock the achievements on RetroAchievements.
So… honestly? If this is the only game you have available, it’s fine to spend some time with it. But there are definitely better solitaire options out there.
