Mokoko X is another reinterpretation of the classics Qix and Volfied.

Final Thoughts – Analyzing the Game as a Whole

Graphics and UI

The artwork of the girls is very well done. I personally don’t like cut-out animation, but I have to take my hat off to them, they executed it very well.

My only criticism is directed at the enemies. I found their design quite unpleasant. They have garish colors, rough shading, and are drawn in a way that makes them look like flat pieces of paper. In my opinion, this is the most negative aspect of the game.

The main menu is very simple to understand, it literally only has Story Mode, Arcade Mode, and Settings.

What caused me some confusion was the HUD. It contains a lot of information and at first glance may seem overwhelming.
However, after taking a closer look, it’s actually quite clear. You basically just need to focus on your shield bar and health.

Soundtrack and Sound Effects

The sound design is very well done.
Fun music, well-integrated sound effects, and most importantly: voice acting! The girls and enemies have both English and Japanese voice options, which gives the game an extra touch of care and charisma.
I’m sure my experience wouldn’t have been as positive without the voice acting.

Gameplay

Very well done, challenging at the right level!
And if you think this style of gameplay might be too complex (or too easy), in Mokoko X you can choose the difficulty that best fits your skill level.

I cleared Story Mode in a little over two hours. After completing the game for the first time, Arcade Mode becomes available. This mode is essentially Story Mode without continues and with a cumulative score — great for online competition.

There is DLC that removes the girls’ clothing. Honestly, though, I didn’t find their artwork particularly appealing. I actually preferred the censored version (!).
There wasn’t any specific reason, I simply found the uncensored art even less visually appealing.

The game was localized into Portuguese, and the localization quality is very good. I didn’t notice any issues or typos.

In summary, despite having a Story Mode, it’s a game that can also be played casually.
On days when you don’t know what to play, you might remember this game and think: “How many points can I score on this level?”

Replayability and Game Retention

If you enjoy competing for leaderboard positions, you’ll easily spend hours playing Mokoko X.
And here’s a tip: if you want to achieve high scores, you’ll need to set the difficulty to Hard (which naturally increases retention due to the number of attempts required to clear each level).
