Final Thoughts – Analyzing the Game as a Whole

Graphics and UI

I loved the art style the first time I saw this game! It’s very expressive and bizarre at the same time. In fact, the main reason I wanted to play this game was its peculiar art style. It reminds me a lot of No, I’m Not a Human.

On the other hand, I didn’t find the UI very intuitive. Even with explanations of what to do for each imperfection you encounter, it wasn’t easy for me to perform some procedures.
For example, it was not clear to me where I could get a new leg. To use the ointment, you need to click on the infected area, move the cursor outside that area, and then return to the injured area to be able to click again. Multiple clicks will not work.
Once I learned what to do in each situation, the game started to flow much better.

The part where you need to correct the facial expression reminded me a lot of Who’s Lila.

One specific thing that bothered me was the fact that I cannot close the patient’s report window by pressing the Esc button. You need to click on an arrow button (which indicates you can go back). When you press Esc, a menu showing the settings and main menu appears.
It makes sense, but it could also close any other open window.

Soundtrack and Sound Effects

There’s no music, only sound effects. This creates a morbid atmosphere while you operate on the patients.
The silence makes everything you do feel illegal or something like that.

Some parts of the game feature voice acting, and it’s the cherry on top that makes the experience even more sinister.

Gameplay

Smile More is a macabre and interesting game.
You play as a surgeon who must “fix” patients, making them perfect and happy. After finishing your work, you send a report to the Ministry of Happiness & Peace. Everything you do is based on the orders of this entity.
All patients have a document containing a brief description of their past and some government notes.

Analyzing the body is simple, you just need to click on each part of it. You can also try different combinations of facial expressions to perform the face “fixes.”

As I mentioned earlier, using the tools was not very intuitive for me, but after some trial and error, everything started to work well.

It’s a short experience with no save option.

Replayability and Game Retention

The replay value is high because there are many small secrets. You need to explore the possibilities while performing the operations. Each run is short, so there’s no problem starting again from scratch, because everything happens at a fast pace.
You need to hack the system!

The game has three endings. And even if you don’t have the patience to discover everything by yourself, you can always use a walkthrough.
It’s definitely worth playing! I liked it!
