Angelstruck is a mix of fixed shooter and roguelite with a heavy metal theme.
It’s frantic and challenging, your mission is to destroy hordes of enemies.
Final Considerations – Analyzing the Game as a Whole
Graphics and UI
Beautiful artwork with few colors and tones, but carefully chosen to create a dark and infernal atmosphere.
The background changes each stage and introduces new enemies with different sizes and attack patterns.
The animations are nice and well-made, bringing a lot of fluidity to the gameplay (no stiff characters that look like they’re just floating around). Despite being a roguelite, Angelstruck manages to present visuals that deviate from the usual repetition and predictable patterns of the genre.
I really enjoyed the protagonist’s expressions, they’re very cartoony and reinforce the idea that the character is completely crazy about killing enemies.
The ability descriptions are quite objective.
On the equipment screen and gem selection, I think a brief explanation or signpost encouraging the player to interact with these systems is missing. It wasn’t very intuitive for me, it took me a while to realize that you could improve the main character’s abilities. However, once I noticed it was possible, everything became quite smooth and I didn’t have any difficulty. I think more distracted players might run into the same issue.
Soundtrack and Sound Effects
Nothing like metal music to get your blood pumping while blowing up enemies.
The songs change with each stage and help keep the excitement going.
The sound effects aren’t anything special, just standard shooting and explosion sounds.
Throughout the game’s atmosphere, one thing I think would have been really cool is if the character used some slang, something in a Duke Nukem–style tone.
Gameplay
A very challenging and addictive game!
There is a tutorial that teaches how the mechanics work. Even so, at the beginning it was a bit difficult for me to adapt to all the commands. I’m a bit slow with games that require good motor coordination and agility hahaha And when the difficulty ramps up, I still get tangled up a bit 😛
As you score points, you gain coins that can be used to unlock gems that improve your abilities and new weapons.
The game is divided into four difficulties: Warm-Up, Easy, Hard, and Nightmare.
The last two can only be played after finishing the game on Hard mode.
Angelstruck is very friendly in terms of controls. It allows you to use a joystick, keyboard, or mouse, making it pleasant for all types of players thanks to this versatility.
Replayability and Game Retention
For me, the retention was high! The game is difficult, but the challenge of collecting coins to improve your abilities gives you the motivation not to give up.
I really enjoyed it, it was a very pleasant surprise!
I recommend it to those who enjoy frenetic and challenging games, and of course to anyone who likes good heavy metal music!
